Thank you for your interest in our classes!
As a family in one of our classes, you and your child will have the opportunity to play musically each week under the guidance of one of our early childhood music specialists. During class, you will sing and move to songs and rhythmic rhymes in a variety of meters and tonalities by participating in activities that include small and large movement, instrument play-alongs and community singing. These fun activities are presented as informal, non-performance-oriented musical experiences that are developmentally appropriate for children and easy for parents and caregivers to participate in regardless of their own musical ability!
In addition to the fun you will have in class, you will receive two professionally recorded CDs and a beautifully-illustrated songbook so you can continue the music-making fun at home. Families new to Music Together® will also receive our "Music Together at Home: Helping Your Child Grow Musically" parent DVD.
The Fall, Winter and Spring semesters are 10 weeks and the Summer semester is 6 weeks. Each class meets weekly for 45 minutes. Join us by going to our Registration page.
Mixed Age Classes
This is the essential Music Together class, one that a child can attend from birth through age four (or 5 or 6!) through all nine song collections. This basic class follows the recommendations of child development researchers—grouping children of a variety of ages together, because this fosters natural, family-style learning. Younger children enjoy watching and imitating older ones; older children learn by leading younger ones; and adults are happy because the children in the family can go to class together. In a Music Together class, we trust and respect each child’s unique learning style. Some will simply stare and “study” the experience; others wander around the room exploring the space and checking in visually with the adult who brought them. Then there are those who sing, play and dance freely. Children display what they have learned when and where they feel comfortable, at home, in the car, etc. Whether they participate or not, all children absorb and experience a community of families making music. As they become more familiar with the songs and chants, parents observe many more musical behaviors from their children. Each class has ritual features which the children need and enjoy - the Hello song, an instrumental play-along, a lullaby and goodbye song. Eight to ten other musical experiences are included in each class, ranging from free movement to rhythmic chants in unusual meters.
